Martini & Rossi

The Martini & Rossi Observatory was founded on 1987 in Santo Stefano Belbo FOR QUALITY IMPROVEMENT.

The cornerstones of the Observatory are:

  • Collaboration with the grape growers and with research institutes
  • Analysis of the environment in which the Moscato grape variety grows
  • Protection of environmental biodiversity
  • Experimentation in the vineyard to improve the quality of the grapes.

To pursue the improvement of the quality of Moscato grapes, the following initiatives have been undertaken over the years:

  1. Martini & Rossi Project – Birds in the vineyard
  2. New selections of Moscato Martini & Rossi. Study of old Moscato biotypes to create new types of clones
  3. Vineyard for the production of selected nursery material
  4. Study of the territory – 300 types of soils
  5. Experimental demonstration vineyards Observatory M&R
  6. Training meetings with winegrowers
  7. Drafting of technical publications for winegrowers
  8. Editing of the monthly newspaper “Martini in Vigna”
  9. Educational activities for sustainable vineyard management
  10. Martini & Rossi experimental project for the drying of clusters “Blue Seal Project”

Martini & Rossi has always stood out for strongly considering the concept of “sustainable development,” as summarized in the definition developed by the World Commission on Environment and Development in 1987:

“Sustainable development is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.” This commitment is evidenced by over thirty years of history of the Observatory with the various activities undertaken and by the more recent choice to approach the Equalitas standard, the voluntary certification dedicated to the world of wine and its entire supply chain.

In 2020, Martini & Rossi took the lead in achieving this certification under the “Sustainable Organization” scheme for the Santo Stefano Belbo Plant and requiring the same commitment from grape suppliers.

We are committed to improving winemaking processes and cellar facilities with a focus on sustainable efficiency. We measure the site’s environmental impacts (water footprint and carbon footprint) in close collaboration with grape suppliers regarding vineyard activities. Every year, Martini & Rossi publishes the Sustainability Report for the Santo Stefano Belbo site, a document that tells of our commitment to sustainable development. This document is available for anyone wishing to delve deeper into these issues, by visiting the cellar or referring to the contacts listed on this website.
